History

Saracen Care & Repair was founded back in 1986 as a preliminary step into the world of automobiles. Saracen started out as a small panel beating and paint shop in an even smaller workshop on Rougham Industrial Estate. From there as work began taking off Saracen made the switch to Thurston Granary as the need for more space became a necessity. Work continued to grow, and vehicles of all shapes and sizes began to be catered for so a third move came about to an old blister hanger unit back in Rougham Industrial Estate, where a huge spectrum of automobiles began flooding in, including lorries, horseboxes, industrial vehicles and even farm machinery, harking back to the owner's original humble beginnings at Claas agriculture GmbH.

As the team grew, and with it the work and vehicle sizes did too David Manning, the owner, realised his passion lay in the foundations of Saracen, the classics. Over the years as each year the business expanded, on downtime David studiously restored, rebuilt and generally tinkered with a vast array of classic models and marques himself. The fruits of his labour came in many forms, but all of them gave him the realisation that this was where his specialisation, and love for his work is.

As a result, Saracen made a fourth move, and a significant shift in direction, setting up a specialist workshop on Symonds Farm Industrial Estate just outside Bury St Edmunds. Saracen's focus is classic car restoration, offering a wealth of experience in all marques and a specialism in older Ford, Triumph, Sunbeam and Jenson motors; having rebuilt many Capris, Stags, Interceptors, Alpines to name but a few. Saracen has also worked on older Ferraris, Aston Martins, Jaguars, Lotus', Austins, Minis et cetera; it's a very long list, but you can rest assured the team are very capable and experienced.

Outside of Saracen the team also spend their time in motoring circles, visiting shows around the country. Annual trips to Beaulieu Autojumble, Goodwood Revival, and the Silverstone Grand Prix being a given. David is a motoring enthusiast through and through, and will never stray far from a conversation or meet on the subject!
